UPASH – Astro Luminoso & Nova Aliança
In the first half of 2024, APOTI implemented two drinking water systems with artesian wells in two Huni Kuin villages in Rio Jordão: the Astro Luminoso village, in the Kaxinawá Indigenous Territory of the Lower Rio Jordão, and the Nova Aliança village, in the Kaxinawá Indigenous Territory of the Rio Jordão.
The work included, in each village: consultation and alignment with the village community about the well (including the installation site), logistics and transportation of materials, drilling the ground, construction of the service station (support for water tanks, showers and taps), installation of two 3000L water tanks/each, installation of an industrial filter, installation of solar pumping (1320W panels) and piping of water to the central group of houses (about 8 houses).
The Astro Luminoso village has existed for over 30 years and had never had access to drinking water. The population is currently 149 people, who now have access to better quality water, in addition to a reduced risk of accidents related to water transportation, which is usually done by women.
Nova Aliança is the village in Jordão that suffered the most from the great flood of 2024, which practically destroyed the village. There are currently 205 people living there, who never before had access to drinking water. Now the population has access to better quality water, in addition to a reduced risk of accidents related to water transportation, which is usually done by women.
