Solar Energy – Novo Futuro
APOTI intitated out a Solar Energy project in the Novo Futuro village, in the Kaxinawá Indigenous Land of the Humaitá River, Tarauacá region, State of Acre. This was a significant technological step forward for the community.
For this installation, the village was divided into three sectors, with a photovoltaic lighting module installed in each sector. The objective was to provide lighting to all village residences and common areas, such as the cafeteria, ecological bathrooms, ceremonial longhouse (shubuã), guesthouses and the most used public paths. A Culture Point was also installed for the use and charging of electronic equipment, in a house specially designed to house solar equipment.
APOTI also implemented an educational program for the village to ensure the equipment is used correctly and safely. This was to address the concerns of overloading the inverters and excessive battery use, as well as provide the villagers with sufficient technical training in order to carry out minor maintenance independently. Since installation in 2015 there have been no major failures and the system remains, for the most part, in full operation.
A second phase of the Novo Futuro Solar project was developed in the following year, which consisted of maintenance and expansion of solar energy systems. This included newly built homes and constructions that were made for the III Festival Huni Kuin Eskawatã Kawayai.
